Starting your A Levels can feel like a really big step, and here at The Sheffield Sixth Form, you can rely on all the support you need to embark on your career journey.

We have several friendly support teams on hand to help you with absolutely anything you need. Whether it’s something personal, money worries, classroom support, or getting advice about your future, we’re here for you.

Financial Support

Being able to focus fully on your studies means not having to worry about money, and that’s why here at The Sheffield Sixth Form, we support our students to receive the right financial help for their situations. Depending on eligibility, you could receive support for travel, course equipment, meals, or childcare. Make sure you speak with our financial support team to discuss your situation and get the right support and funding in place for your time at sixth form.

Careers Advice and Guidance

We offer our students careers education, information, advice, and guidance, helping to make sure their progression path is the right one for them. When you study at The Sheffield Sixth Form, you’ll be able to make the most of workshops, talks, and tutorials, to help you pinpoint the right next steps for your career goals. Our Careers Advice Team has great links with local employers, training providers, colleges and universities, meaning we have a wide range of contacts to support our students in the best way possible.

Health and Well-being Support

Here at The Sheffield Sixth Form, we are committed to giving our students all the support they need to maintain good mental health and well-being throughout their studies and beyond. The Students’ Union and Safeguarding teams regularly host well-being cafes, including mindfulness activities, additional support from dedicated professionals, and an opportunity for a moment of quiet within a busy day. We also have mental first aiders on hand, providing a safe space to talk to anyone who needs it.

Childcare

If you’re a parent or carer who studies at The Sheffield Sixth Form, it could be helpful to know that we have a nursery on site at City Campus. We’re incredibly proud of our nurseries, which provide high quality educational and social experiences for children aged six months through to seven years. If you are needing to manage your studies alongside childcare responsibilities, you can apply to the Care to Learn fund. Speak to our Admissions or Student Funding Team if you need any support submitting an application.

SEND and Additional Learning Support

We make it a priority at The Sheffield Sixth Form to ensure we remove all barriers so that all of our students can thrive and meet their potential. We achieve this by ensuring that our teaching, support, and curriculum experiences enable learners with SEND or Additional Learning Support needs to grow in confidence, independence, and aspiration. We have an extensive team of qualified and experienced specialists on hand to support our students with physical access, personal care, adapting course materials, specialist equipment, resources, and provision, and Exam Access Arrangements.

Travel

The Sheffield Sixth Form is based at The Sheffield College’s City Campus, which is very well served by public transport. You can easily get here by bus, tram, train, foot, or bike, and what’s more, there are many deals available to students to help with travel costs. Our Student Central Team can offer you advice on travel products and available student discounts as well as how to apply for a 16-18 Travel Pass.

During your time as a student at The Sheffield Sixth Form, you can always head to Student Central and someone will be able to help with whatever you need there and then, or they’ll be able to point you in the right direction for further support. Being a student here means we’ve got your back and will do all we can to get you the support you need to keep you on the right track for your progression.
