Entry requirements

Entry requirements for A Level programme are based on your GCSE Average Point Score.

Some of our A Level qualifications also hold additional entry requirements.

Keep reading to find out how to calculate your GCSE Average Point Score.

Calculating an Average Point Score (APS)

Add up your total number of GCSE grades for the eight best subjects, including English Language and Maths together, then divide by the number of subjects you’ve taken.

Diploma/BTEC qualifications will not be counted towards your Average Point Score.

Average Point Score example:

  • English Language (Grade 5) = 5 points

  • English Literature (Grade 5) = 5 points

  • Maths (Grade 6) = 6 points

  • Combined Science (Grade 6:6) = 12 points (this counts as 2 subjects)

  • History (Grade 5) = 5 points

  • Geography (Grade 5) = 5 points

Total: 38 points divided by 7 = an APS score of 5.4
